Шостий випуск предметного рейтингу QS World University Rankings by Subject, опублікованого сьогодні на TopUniversities.com, охоплює рекордні 42 дисципліни, що робить його найбільшим рейтингом у цьому аспекті. Українські виші згадуються у таблиці двічі – вперше за всю історію існування рейтингу.

London, 22nd March 2016: The sixth edition of theQS World University Rankings by Subject, released today onTopUniversities.com, features a record-breaking 42 disciplines, making it the largest-ever world subject rankings. Ukrainian universities feature twice in these tables, making it the first time ever that they have featured in QS’s World Subject Rankings.
The most noteworthy success this year for Ukrainian universities comes from the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music (Kiev Conservatory). It ranks in QS’s first-ever Performing Arts ranking, in the 51-100 category. In doing so, it can rank itself among regional peers like Hungary’s Liszt Academy of Music and Russia’s Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory in being one of the world’s top-100 places to study Performing Arts.
Ukraine’s other placed subject comes in Mathematics; the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv ranks in the 301-400 category. In joining the rankings this year, Ukraine becomes one of 60 countries worldwide that are home to universities recognized by QS as providing a world-class education in one or more subjects.
Theexpert opinion of 76,798 academics and 44,426 employers informed the results, alongside the analysis of 28.5 million research papers and over 113 million citations sourced from the Scopus/Elsevier bibliometric database.
Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) continue to dominate, leading in 24 subjects between them. Each takes twelve leading positions.
In the six new disciplines ranked, Harvard University leads the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge in Anthropology, while Cambridge leads Oxford and University College London (UCL) in Archaeology. Juilliard tops the table for Performing Arts; it isfollowed by the University of Performing Arts Vienna. Colorado School of Mines tops Mineral Engineering while MIT takes the second spot. University of Pennsylvania leads Nursing, followed by Johns Hopkins University and the University of Toronto. Harvard, London School of Economics, and the University of Oxford take the top three spots for Social Policy and Administration. Nine of the thirty-six rankings published last year have new leaders.
Ben Sowter, Head of the QS Intelligence Unit, said: “Though the US and UK remain dominant, our most inclusive rankings yet show that excellence can be found in an ever-increasing number of places. Nations like Austria, South Africa, Finland, Brazil, China, and Sweden can be found in the top ten of our tables. Our new top 100 for Performing Arts acknowledges academic excellence in 27 different countries, while our top 100 for Mineral Engineering recognises it in 26.”

Since 2011, QS has extended the scope of the world’s rankings to include the evaluation of 42 individual disciplines. The methodology utilizes adaptive weightings for the four criteria, to take into account the differences among disciplines. The rankings are based on research citations, alongside reputational surveys of over 121,000 academics and graduate employers worldwide.

Ben Sowter
Sowter is the Head of Research at QS, QS Intelligence Unit. He holds a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Nottingham, where he was also awarded the Union Prize for outstanding contribution to the student union and served as chairman of the Nottingham University Debating Society. Ben is fully responsible for the operational management of all major QS research projects and is actively involved in all the collection, compilation and tabulation of all the data that lead to, amongst others, the World University Rankings research in which he has been involved since its initial inception in 2004. A frequent contributor to the press, Ben’s opinion on global education trends and his expertise is used regularly by major global publications.
